Overview

This tool mentor is applicable when running Windows 95/98/NT 4.0.

Tool Steps

An activity tracks versions that are created while working on a development task. An activity includes a text headline, which describes the task, an ID, which is the activity's unique identifier, and a change set, which identifies all versions that you create while working on the activity.  When you're ready to modify source files, you must set your development view to an activity.

To work with UCM activities:

  1. Create an activity
  2. Set an activity
  3. Check out and modify versions
  4. Check in work

1. Create an activity To top of page

Refer to the following topic in ClearCase Help for a description of this procedure: To Add Activities to Your Development Stream.

2. Set an activity To top of page

You create and set activities from the checkout dialog box.

Refer to the following topic in ClearCase Help for a description of this procedure: To Find and Set Activities.

Refer to the section "Setting Activities" in Developing Software with ClearCase.

3. Check out and modify versions To top of page

To modify source files, go to your development view and check them out. ClearCase opens the Check Out dialog box with the currently set activity selected in the Activity list. You can accept the selection, choose another activity, or create a new activity.

Refer to the following topic in ClearCase Help for a description of this procedure: To Check Out Files and Directories.

Refer to the section "Checking Out Files" in Developing Software with ClearCase.

4. Check in work To top of page

When you want to keep a record of a file's current state, check it in. Any work you check in from your development view is not available to other team members until you deliver it.
Refer to the following topic in ClearCase Help for a description of this procedure: To Check In Files and Directories.

Refer to the section "Checking In Files" in Developing Software with ClearCase.
